10 on 10

I decided this year that one thing I wanted to start doing was a number of pictures on that number day of the month post. I am going to go with “10 on 10″ because I feel like that is a good number for me. So today I begin that! This will be a post where I share pics that I might have already shared on instagram or just photos I have on my phone/camera. These happen to all come off of my phone for this post.

1. Yes. That is miss E covered in toothpaste. This girl is my sneaky one! I have multiple stories about things like this her. I did find out that at least this type of toothpaste cleans easily and it’s better than the “peanut butter”, which was not really peanut butter if you get my drift, that she brought me the other day.

2. So proud of my hubby! He’s going on his first ever out of country missions trip. And if you are in need of coffee, any that you purchase from here will give a certain percentage for his missions trip through our church.

3. Last month I was able to do the Valentine’s Day craft for miss J’s class. These are her finished projects. We let them make a candy jar (tutorial here) and then I took a picture of them to put inside a frame they glued fun shredded paper on.

4. Miss J is improving so much with her reading. We have been working hard on that along with math and other subjects. She even started choosing to read books on her very own recently which is huge! I usually have to gently persuade her.

5. I was so excited to find this book at Books-a-Million on our date night last Friday! I have two projects in this one. I will be sharing a whole blog post about it this week with a giveaway for a copy as well. So stay tuned for that.

6. What can I say? I have lots of pics of this girl. She’s always with me too, so that is probably a big factor along with her being adorable. She was wearing daddy’s hat pretending to be a farmer. Her favorite animal at the moment is a cow so she says.

7. With the cold still lingering a bit, I finished up this hat for myself. I used this awesome crochet pattern. And you know me. I made it in my fave color, mustard yellow.

8. For some reason I have been drawn to vintage kids books while out thrifting. These are some of my recent finds along with that superb paint by number horse piece! I found that at one of those stores where they rent out booths. You know, the ones just full of everything and the kitchen sink? This lady had a bunch of these in her booth and had added the cool frames. It’s perfect in miss J’s room now :)

9. I am helping out with some projects for an upcoming conference at our church. I made these fabulous letters with this tutorial. They are made from foam board and cardboard. A lady walking by our house asked my husband about them because the garage door was open and she could see them. She said they looked like vintage metal letters from a few feet away and wanted to know if I make and sell them. I take that as a job well done!

10. Lastly, I finished up a quilt for my newest niece. She was just adopted by my brother and his wife. I’m so happy for them! It’s been a long wait but so neat to see their dream come true. This was a beginning of the quilt pic. I just kind of made it up. I had these fabulous pre-cut hexagons and knew they would be perfect to use. I bought them while on super sale on Craftsy. They are from the Moda Honeycomb pack of Sunnyside by Kate Spain.

That’s it for this time. I’m hoping to start a few more consistent type posts soon as well, like a monthly link up post so we can see what you are making. I know those type of things helped me get out there when I first started blogging and I would like to offer the same opportunity for you all.

Christmas Pictures at the Park

Christmas Pictures

Happy New Year everyone!  I’m trying to get back into the swing of things over here. I took some time off to enjoy some family that came and visited and to just focus on taking of the girls because my hubby was out of town for a month for some work training. We weren’t able to pull off Christmas pictures as a family, but I did try to get some pics of the girls. They were less than cooperative, but who could blame them? We were in a beautiful state park on a gorgeous day and the deer were out! I will just let the pics speak for themselves for this post ;) I’m happy to be back and ready to share crafty things! I’m hoping to make some good changes over on this little space this year as long as time allows.

A Birthday in New Orleans

photo(62)
Birthday decor in the hotel room.

Our girls both had their birthdays this summer. Miss J was first and turned 6 on me. I can’t believe she’s 6.

The birthday princess in Anthropologie. She loves it there as much as I do.

This year she asked to stay in a hotel for her birthday instead of have a party. I was totally down with that. We decided to use it as an opportunity to see New Orleans with the girls (my hubby has to go down there a lot so he’s been many times already). We had to make it a short trip, but that was plenty for us.

We went to the zoo, the aquarium, the mall, a cute restaurant for breakfast, and had lots of fun at the hotel.

It was a nice break and a good time for our family. We usually save our trips for visiting family, but we are trying to do more just ourselves to explore new places while the Coast Guard has us moving around. Might as well experience all we can while we are in different places.

Happy Birthday sign

Since this trip was her birthday present, we only got her one gift that we had been talking about for a year. A sewing machine. Well, actually we gave her a picture and are hoping to go get one soon lol.

Miss J started school back up again. It’s a little more quiet than normal. Although miss E definitely makes herself known. Along with getting into a new school routine, we are prepping for a family wedding coming up soon! I’m making flower girl dresses and taking the pictures, so I can’t wait to share all of that.

Daddy’s Girls

Father's Day

Since Father’s Day was Sunday, we celebrated my husband all weekend long. It’s always more fun when it’s more than one day, right? We did everything he wanted and let him go out and have fun. I only asked one thing and that was that he let me get some pictures of him and the girls.

Father's Day

He kindly obliged and so we headed out Sunday evening to get these. I love getting pictures of them all together. It blesses my heart.

It was so cute seeing the girls blow the dandelion puffs and pick flowers for each other.

Miss E is at the point of independence now and doesn’t want to be held much. I wanted a pic of Will holding her so I got him to throw her to help her forget about wiggling out of his arms. It worked.

Father's Day

But then miss J had to get in on the action. She’s sooooo big now. I can’t believe that she used to be E’s size anymore.

Thank you to all the men out there who are rockin’ their jobs as dads!  You are needed and appreciated. And a special thank you to my daddy for being the best ever, my father in law for raising an awesome son that I got to marry, and to my hubby for being an amazingly incredible dad to our girls.

Us

Just wanted to share a few pics from Instagram that I have taken the past few weeks. We have been settling down a bit now that spring break is over. We had a great Easter and I really need to get those pictures off of my camera. But i had this one of them above on my phone. Miss E just kept wanting to sit in that corner for some reason. Little ones can be peculiar at times, can’t they?

I don’t usually get in too many pics with my girls, but I made sure to get one while we visited the Houston zoo. That was an interesting and fun adventure.

My mom had a birthday in March and I finally got her present to her! I made this banner to go with her “beachy” decor.

Miss J recently went fishing for the very first time and look what she caught! It was the biggest out of all the others that were with her.

We have been taking advantage of the pretty weather and meeting up with friends whenever we can. I miss living by a beach so much! But at least we have a lake.

I have had a few custom orders I did recently too. I made the onesies for a friend’s sister. And I saw that the babies were just born the other day! Soon they will be able to wear these :)

I also made matching dad/son ties for my cousin. It’s a blessing to have family that supports me.

Here is a little dress, well it was more like a top, that I made miss J. She participated in a talent show at school and she picked out this fabric for me to make her an outfit. Sadly, at the last minute she decided not to wear it. But she did wear it to church the next Sunday. She’s getting pickier in what she wears in her old age.

I got around to updating our front door with a spring wreath too. I wrapped a straw wreath in burlap and then added these pretty flowers (from Micheal’s)  and some vintage lace. It makes me happy.

Miss E has been getting some more handmade clothes lately. I made her these ruffle pants and just finshed a dress and some lace leggings the other night. I love it. I’m hoping to get a lot more made for them these next few months.

I’m still pretty preoccupied with Project Run and Play at the moment. I can’t wait to share my creation for this week. It’s been fun being creatively challenged, although I don’t think I’ll ever do a competition again. It’s a lot of work. Hope you all have a wonderful week!

Kindness

I’ve been pretty quiet over here lately haven’t I? I guess you can say our social life has grown tremendously here the past few weeks and having a daughter in school adds a lot more events to life as well. I have been making things and hope to share them soon. They are just bigger, more time consuming projects and I’m trying to get my designs made for Project Run and Play All Stars too. In the meantime, I wanted to share a quick story with you.
Last week, one of my devotionals was about serving others. I know I serve my family a lot, but it challenged me to think of looking for other ways to serve. I know I’m limited in a sense to what I can do, so I prayed that God would give me little ways to show kindness and help others in my daily routine. Even if it’s little things like hold the door for someone.
A few days after praying that I found myself in Hobby Lobby. Go figure ;) I was waiting in line to get some fabric cut and a man in front of me was buying this special black velvet like fabric. I overheard the lady cutting talking with him about what it was for and how if he had a coupon he could save a lot of money (it was pricey fabric and he needed a lot). He told her he didn’t have one and didn’t have a smart phone where he could pull it up, but asked if she could hold the fabric and he come back tomorrow since he lived a distance away.
I took the opportunity to politely enter in the conversation and told him he could use the coupon on my phone if he didn’t mind waiting. He didn’t and as we walked to the checkout I found out he was a pastor and was buying this fabric to surprise the youth pastor at his church who wanted it for doing illusionist presentations for the youth/children. I was feeling so happy that I was going to be able to help him save a good chunk of change for ministry purposes.
It finally came our turn and as he placed his fabric down on the counter, he grabbed everything in my cart and said he was paying for that too. I was a bit shocked at first, like seriously? You want to do that for me? But I accepted because I don’t believe in robbing someone of their blessing. (If someone wants to bless you, let them!). His act of kindness to my act of kindness blessed me so much. I wasn’t expecting anything. I felt just so glad to be able to help someone in a small way. But, I ended up being blessed even more by his kindness.
I have used that fabric to make a special garland that is now over our kitchen sink. Every time I look at it I’m reminded of what happened and to keep my eyes open for helping others. Keep your eyes open too. You never know how an act of kindness might really be needed and how you might touch someones life. It’s amazing what the little things can do.

This and That

I just wanted to share some pics from my instagram for anyone who hasn’t seen them yet. Above is a little skirt I made for a one year old’s birthday present. I loved how it turned out and I’m planning on making some like this for my girls.

Made this leather cuff using this tutorial. Super quick and super cute!

We have been in the kitchen making stuff too. One day we made some yummy strawberry milkshakes together. This girl has such a sweet tooth!

Hubby made us a headboard!!!!!! It’s all done and in place now, but I have to do some finishing touches before I share the whole thing. I absolutely love it.

I took a go at the embroidery hoop art a few weeks ago and did this. I still need to finish it, but it was really fun to do.

This was from when I made all of those pom poms for the mail project.

This little one has been getting into everything as usual. She loves to climb. I leave the room and come back to find her on top of things.  Nothing like having your heart jump a few times a day ;)

I got some pretty fabrics to make pillow covers for our living room. They are from the Lillybelle Collection by Bari J. I’m ready to add some spring color to our home.

And this little guy was put together by miss J. It was a kit from Target and she had so much fun doing it. There is a talent show at her school coming up and she wants to sew for it! (one beaming proud mom over here for her wanting to do that). At first she didn’t want to do anything, but I guess they were talking to her about sewing for it at school and now she is so excited! I’m just glad that she has found some things that she really enjoys to do. Bonus is that they are things I like too :)

The Birthday Boy

Untitled

This past weekend was super busy for us. It doesn’t happen too often that it’s this packed. We had two parties to attend and then we celebrated Will’s birthday. He’s getting so old ;)

Untitled

Miss J helped me decorate and wrap presents. She LOVES doing stuff like this.

Untitled

But, I think her favorite part was eating cake. She wouldn’t even put down her fork so I could snap a picture of her not shoving it in her mouth. Ha!

Untitled

Miss E loved her cake too.

Untitled

It was finger lickin’ good!

Untitled

The girls loved on their dad, though this picture doesn’t particularly show that ;) I think they just wanted more cake instead of sitting on dad’s lap for a picture.

Untitled

But we tried pics with them separately and it went a lot better. I love seeing them give nose kisses. “Ugga mugga!” (if you watch pbs kid shows you know what I’m talking about).

I’m hoping to finish up his gift I sewed him and share it this week. I had grand plans for finishing it before his birthday, but it’s funny how those plans kept getting interrupted. At least the interrupters are really cute (ie my girls). This week will be full of sewing though. And, I haven’t officially announced it, but I am participating in Project Run and Play All Stars which begins at the end of March! If you follow me and the other participants on instagram (or twitter), check out the tag #prapallstars for previews of what we are all making. I am looking forward to it as it’s more of a “fun” competition. No one goes home! You get to see everyone’s creations for four weeks straight. I’m excited to get my designs made and see what everyone else does.

Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012

Well hello! It’s been a while. We were very blessed to be able to go visit Virginia and see all of our family this year, so I took a little break from the blog. (ok, a long break)

Christmas 2012

It was a long drive up there (over 21 hours each way), but we did it and I was so impressed with how my girls did. I was expecting the worst, but they pleasantly surprised me.

Christmas 2012

The girls were in heaven with all the family they got to see (and all of the Christmas’ they got to have).

Christmas 2012

It was such a wonderful time and made me homesick.

Christmas 2012           Christmas 2012
Christmas 2012

There was lots of laughter, good talks, fun play, and good food.

Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012

Miss J was so excited to see her cousins and their animals. Now all she talks about is getting a bunny! Or 3……

Christmas 2012

It was also good to be back in the cold Virginia air. When we left Louisiana, it was still humid and warm so that was a welcome change! Of course it isn’t so warm here anymore, but we are still a good 20 degrees warmer than there.

Christmas 2012

It’s time now for me to work on some goals/resolutions/and all that good stuff. I’m a little behind with that since it is already January 6, but I’ve learned to have lots of flexibility! haha So happy new year to you and I look forward to spending another year with you all!

Our Family Pictures

Family Christmas Photos

I was so happy to have someone help with our family pictures this year. Last year we kept trying to do them using the camera timer, but we were not as successful as I would have liked. My parents came to visit this past October, so I took advantage of that for these pictures. I found this beautiful spot and we got there an hour before sunset. It was actually sooooo hot and the bugs were terrible, so we did this very quickly! I set up the camera and placed us. My mom played silly behind my dad while he snapped a bunch of pictures. I knew some would come out good no matter what :) Then hubby and I took pics of each other with our kiddos. Miss J wasn’t into the pics as much and wanted to explore, but we still got some with her in them.
