I Heart Simple

August 26, 2009 by Jessica 25 Comments

I heart things that look simple and are simple to make. What about you? I have another Christmas present down!

Made from a placemat

Made from a placemat. I love how most of the work was already done for me. I almost have two more placemat clutches made as well. We have this Dillard’s clearance center near us (it’s amazing) and they had stocked up on their napkins and placemats. I had a ball and bought most at only $1.50 each! They were originally a lot more than that.

I heart simple clutches
I added a piece of that plastic stuff with the holes in it (at the craft stores, anyone know the technical name?) to the bottom to make it sturdy. I covered it in fabric first though, then just glued it in.

It’s called plastic canvas, if that’s what you were referring to. ๐Ÿ™‚

Very cute! I will have to be on the lookout for cut placemats! Is the plastic stuff what people do needle point on?

What a great clutch! I love how you used placemats. It sounds like you used plastic canvas for the bottom of the bag.

Love the clutch. That plastic stuff is called “plastic canvas”, I keep a stash of it to use in my crochet and knit hats with brims (bills) so that they will keep their shape.

Great job, I love the purple! This reminds me of the placemat purses my mom used make me when I was little, I thought I was so sophisticated when I played dress-up with those!

Oh, this is beautiful! The quilting just makes it. I think I’ll be browsing the clearance aisles for quilted placemats . . . I have an aunt who would adore this for a Christmas present.

Thanks for sharing your project! Great blog, by the way. I’ve been reading for a few weeks now. ๐Ÿ™‚

I have this idea for Valentines decor on our mantl I have this idea for Valentines decor on our mantle and these fun confetti hearts I made are going to be a part of it. You can find a tutorial to make your own from @amanda_evanston . A few of the items I used in mine were: shredded Anthropologie shopping bag (and cut up the fabric handle too), cut up newspaper, hole punched card stock, fringe from yarn, cut up gold circle confetti, crinkled gift filler paper, etc... It was fun using all kinds of random things ๐Ÿ˜Š
