New Pattern: As You Like It Dress & Shirt

August 9, 2010 by Jessica 211 Comments

This has been in the making since April (yes, that is how old most of these pictures are), so I’m super duper happy to have it all finished! Hooray! This pattern has been so much fun for me and my testers all say they really enjoyed it too. Let me share a bit about it.

New Pattern! August 2010

I really enjoy creating a pattern that allows for the use of a variety of fabric and the ability to fit a wide range of sizes (slim to plus). Now, it can’t always happen, but I think I got pretty close with one. That is why I chose to name it the “As You Like it Dress & Shirt” because you make it how you like it!

Before the balloons got away

The above dress is a more simple one, which is what the main set of instructions share on how to create.

You can add all sorts of fun embellishments! Back of dress-Tie straps

Then I go into a bit more detail and share on how I changed it up a bit. Like above, I did a bunch of different pieces with all kinds of embellishments, trims, and iron ons.

Soda always makes a photoshoot betterAll smiles

The pattern shares measurements to create a shirt or a dress, but you can alter that length to what you like.

Elastic back

I share two ways to do the back. One with the braided elastic (seen above) and the other with shirring (see further down).

Getting excited yet?

Ruffled Tiers Shirred Back

I share tips on how to make a tiered dress/shirt too. This was made using old shirts of mine and has a shirred back.

Button details

Altering the pattern

I even share how to alter the pattern to create a dress like the one above.

Transitions through seasons

Will you lookie there? You can even add a long sleeve (or short sleeve) underneath for the fall! Some little ones who are full of a little more love might not be able to add a shirt underneath, but many will.

Add a shirt underneath!

Now presenting the amazing and beautiful creations of my pattern testers:

From Alida from I Make Stuff:

asyoulikeit asyoulikeit1 IMG_5219

Amazing! She took some time to make this dress! I told all my testers they could go as simple as they need to because I understand time and all. But this girl whipped this up in like two days! Isn’t is cute? And her daughter so precious?

From Beth from From the Hive:

as you like it dress size 8 as you like it dress as you like it dress -outside ruffles

Beth was a go getter with making one for her daughter and for the girl she watches during the summer. She did both dresses in knits. I love how she tiered the hearts one. Both girls are beautiful little models!

From Corey of Living and Loving Every Minute of It:

Jul1310_0024e2wJul1310_0027ewJul1310_0038ew

Doesn’t Corey take beautiful pictures? And her daughter is a gorgeous model. Corey made my day when she said this is one of her favorite things she’s made for her daughter in a while.

From Nicole at Cole’s Corner and Creations:

Picture Courtesy of Nicole Picture Courtesy of Nicole Picture Courtesy of Nicole

I love the little extras she gave to these dresses! And look at her cutie rocking that cast! Nicole said this pattern actually had great timing with the cast situation. Her daughter wasn’t able to wear her normal clothes because the cast wouldn’t fit over it, but she was able to wear these dresses.
