Bringing the Outdoors Inside

December 12, 2009 by Jessica 7 Comments

My daughter and I have been spending quite a bit of time in the backyard as of late. The temperature has been quite comfortable for the most part and we have taken full advantage of that. While outside, I had some ideas for our bedroom decor.

A Branch Frame

The first thing I did was make this frame thing out of branches. I laid them all out then used tacky glue on the spots where they touched. I finished it up by spraying it with sealer. I like it. It looked cool plain, but I had this bird plate from Anthropologie and added it. It looks like the bird is on the branches.

Pinecone Pieces and Moss Frame

This picture frame used to be a tacky silver one. I couldn’t stand it, but my husband wanted it because he wanted the picture on his nightstand. This thing needed a makeover though to fit into the theme of our room (which I am slowly, slowly working on). I just tore off the pieces of a pinecone and glued them on. I glued moss to the side edges. Hopefully I will get to our duvet cover next (which I plan on having a tutorial for by the way).

I love that first frame! I’ve been snipping rosemary and lavendar from the garden and bringing them in this winter.

I love the branches. I picked up some branches from my yard and spay painted them white and used them as part of my Thanksgiving decor. I like you idea of making a frame out them too!

Oh, I can’t wait for the duvet cover tutorial! I need one so bad, I just don’t know where to begin!

By the way-I love the nature theme you are going with.

Beautiful frame. What type of sealer did you use, if you don’t mind me asking!

    C. Michele,

I don’t remember exactly what it was (that can is long gone now :). But, it was one I picked up at Micheal’s, if that helps some. It was in a spray can, but you could go over it with mod podge or something if you wanted. I just think that would take a while if it was a big project.
