Dress Up Monday: A Piece of Cake

June 28, 2010 by Jessica 11 Comments

I’ve got another LBB pattern dress, but this one is a bit different.

Let the baking begin

Why? It’s my first thing I have ever serged!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s right!!!!!!! I finally was able to sit down, focus, read the manual a bazillion times, and use my serger. I’ll be honest. It scared me. But I conquered it. I am a Conqueror!!!! I still have to practice the tension a lot, but I know practice makes perfect.

My daughter wore this dress for a baking lesson with one of her aunts.

Her first time using a mixer

They mixed everything up and then her aunt had another cake already cooked (just like they do on cooking shows) so they wouldn’t have to wait for it to cook.

Frosting Time!

The little one got to help decorate and enjoyed a yummy cake!

Fish Cake
(Oreos for the scales; fruit roll ups for the tail and fins)

And I must say. After my trip, I will have to go on a sugar detox!

I love LBB. I’m one of Ashley’s pattern testers. I just got a Serger about a month ago. I was very excited to get it, but I, too, am a little intimidated by it. I’ve serged on a few scraps, but I need to spend some serious time bonding with my manual and my machine. The dress you made is adorable! Congrats on conquering your Fear Of The Serger!

    Justine,

Yeah….the funny thing about the cake they made is they forgot to put the eggs in it!!!!! So they just left it alone! lol. It was kind of funny looking ๐Ÿ™‚

yeah for conquering your serger! I gave my older sewing machine to our older daughter, so I am on the look out for a new machine. I’ve looked at sergers as well, and I would be the same as you-as far as reading the manual over and over and over! :o)
I can’t wait til we have grandbabies to smock, sew, craft for :o)

Your little one is adorable and looks like she had lots of fun with the cakes!

    Blessings & Aloha!
