Fun in the Sun{dress}: Oceanside Lace Dress Tutorial

June 22, 2011 by Jessica 26 Comments

Today I’m over at iCandy sharing my last guest tutorial for a while: The Oceanside Lace Dress.

They are having a fun series called Fun in the Sun{dress}. It just started this week and will be going on for a few more. They have wonderful guest bloggers lined up. Some with tutorials, some just sharing a pretty sun dress they made. They are also having some giveaways and all that good stuff going on.

A trip to the beach

I had to make at least one more dress for me before I start focusing on finishing up the nursery and baby things (I plan on trying to make some diapers, burp cloths, bibs, etc….let’s see how much I can get done ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lace curtain panel used Lace flowers cut out

This dress is an easy design and has been done lots before, but I tried to spice it up with the lace flowers. They were cut out of a lace curtain panel I found at a thrift store.

Oceanside is so peaceful

I like how elegant it came out. I hope it inspires you to make a fun summer sundress for yourself!

You look so amazing! And I really like the idea of cutting the lace flowers out and sticking them on. I’m eyeing up a few pieces of lace in my stash, now… May just have to make something similar for me or the girlies! (or me!)

You look amazing! and the dress is fabulous too! Would the pattern be too big on a non pregnant person?

    Janelle,

I would suggest not using quite as much fabric as I did. I think on a nonpregnant person it might be a little too bulky and not as flattering. Just reduce the amount used on the back portion and maybe the amount used to ruffle on the bottom portion.

I have this idea for Valentines decor on our mantl I have this idea for Valentines decor on our mantle and these fun confetti hearts I made are going to be a part of it. You can find a tutorial to make your own from @amanda_evanston . A few of the items I used in mine were: shredded Anthropologie shopping bag (and cut up the fabric handle too), cut up newspaper, hole punched card stock, fringe from yarn, cut up gold circle confetti, crinkled gift filler paper, etc... It was fun using all kinds of random things ๐Ÿ˜Š
