Things are starting to warm up around here, so I wanted to make a few dresses for my daughter from this pattern by Ashley at Lil Blue Boo.
I had the t-shirts laying around ready to be cut and pieced together, so it took me one night.
Also, I was finally inspired to make something for her contest. If you don’t know, she’s having a contest with some fab prizes. Here is a quick run down of the rules from her site:
1. Create a unique outfit for a girl or boy using a Lil Blue Boo pattern. Alterations to the patterns ARE allowed as well as additional coordinating clothing items and accessories! I want you to have as much creative room as you think you need!
2. Use at LEAST one of the following techniques in your creation: fabric dyeing, fabric painting, stenciling, fabric transfers, screen printing or other embellishments (including applique).
3. Multiple entries are allowed! So submit as many as you like! There will be a gallery spotlighting all of the entries.
4. After all the entries are received, a very distinguished, diverse panel of judges will narrow the entries down to 10 final designs and there will be a week long public vote on Lil Blue Boo! And then the winner will be announced!
I was going to make the dress to enter, but it didn’t come out as planned. So, I’m going to try again today and I’ll show you my entry soon ๐
I think it turned out very cute.

Those dresses are so cute. I wish it would start warming up where we live. It’s still freezing here.

Awww – those turned out simply adorable! I just sewed my first Sienna dress too. That pattern was wonderful – so simple and quick!! Can’t wait to see your entry :-).

Yay! I can’t wait to see!! Those dresses are so cute…I love the Sprite one!
Those are so cute. I have been wanting to try out that pattern but I am nervous to do it without a serger. Did you serge yours if not how did you finish your seams?

“Did you serge yours if not how did you finish your seams?”
Ashley shows you how to cut the pattern out on the already finished edges of shirts, so you don’t have to sew them at all! But, even if you don’t do that, you could just leave them raw (I did that on the sprite dress) or look in your sewing machine book. There is a stitch for finishing off jersey seams. I was looking in my moms $100 super cheap sewing machine from Walmart and it had that stitch on it! I can’t remember the name, but I will try and look it up later. Or you could zig zag the edge.
Alright! Glad to see some of these dresses popping up. Just posted my first couple of attempts at the halter dress. They’re so much fun to make, eh?
P.S. I love that stripey one. ๐
Adorable dresses! Sweet Pea is my favorite. LilBlueBoo patterns are so clear and easy to follow. I’ve made an outfit to enter also, and “borrowed” a friend’s daughter for the model. Will photograph this week. I’m impressed you made so many dresses in one evening. Good luck. Nancy
