Kidswear: Birthday Dresses

August 28, 2012 by Jessica 8 Comments

Birthday Dresses

This summer was a busy one for us, especially towards the end of July/beginning of August because both of my girls had a birthday!

Birthday Dresses

Their birthdays are only 4 days apart, so we celebrated them together this year with miss E turning 1 and miss J turning 5. We found out we were going to be in Virginia during that time, so I planned a fun party for them at a farm. I saw the cute farm fabric at a fabric store and knew it had to be made into dresses for them. The above dress was miss E’s and I just kind of winged it.

Birthday Dresses

Then for miss J, I used the Out for Lunch Dress pattern and added a little apron to the front.

Birthday Dresses

I was so pleased with how it turned out.

Birthday Dresses

I wasn’t able to get a decent pic of them together standing still on the day of the party, so we took these a few days later.

Birthday Dresses

The next few days I will be sharing more about their party and all that good stuff.

Birthday Dresses

Oh, and because I’m sure someone might want to know, the sheep and bunny fabric are from the Modern Whimsy by Laurie Wisbrun collection. I forget what the pink fabric on top of J’s dress is and then the striped fabric is some I had from a yard sale. Then I used linen for the rest.
Have a great day!

I just made it up and use her clothing for sizing. The top is lined and the front top is two pieces, overlapped, with button holes for the buttons to open up if hard to get over head (which wasn’t a problem though). The bottom is just double the width of the top and then gathered ๐Ÿ™‚

I have this idea for Valentines decor on our mantl I have this idea for Valentines decor on our mantle and these fun confetti hearts I made are going to be a part of it. You can find a tutorial to make your own from @amanda_evanston . A few of the items I used in mine were: shredded Anthropologie shopping bag (and cut up the fabric handle too), cut up newspaper, hole punched card stock, fringe from yarn, cut up gold circle confetti, crinkled gift filler paper, etc... It was fun using all kinds of random things ๐Ÿ˜Š
