Fall is just around the corner and we have been checking out all the new stuff rolling into stores. I always enjoy seeing what is new and getting inspired to put together some outfits for my girls. OshKosh B’gosh let us do some shopping on them to create a fall outfit to share and also let us know about some of the popular back to school trends.

Their biggest trends this fall are:

  • denim: Denim everything! Jackets, shirts, overalls, etc.
  • active wear: Yoga Mama and Lulu Lemon influenced
  • essential woven shirt: plaids, stripes, color pops
  • camo: on boys and girls!

I picked out two fun graphic tees (sweet heart shirt / free to be me shirt) that fit my girls personalities to begin with. Tees with words/quotes are still very popular this year. They can be used in dressed down outfits but also in more dressed up ways like with a skirt or under a dress. I paired miss J’s with a bright colorful pink cardigan (similar) and some skinny jeans. And speaking of jeans, OshKosh has a great campaign going on right now called “B’gosh Jeanius Campaign.” They are partnering with KIDS and Donorschoose.org to help local kids, teachers, and schools thrive. You can participate by donating a new pair of jeans or make a cash donation for this cause. OshKosh will match all denim donations with another item of clothing and all cash donations will be matched up to $50k. This campaign is on until September 17 in you want to participate.

Miss E’s shirt was paired with a comfy blue gauze skirt. She is a skirts kind of gal so she was happy with that choice.

I think one of my favorite parts of picking their outfits was the shoes! Oh my. The shoes are just wonderful (miss e’s floral kicks \ miss j’s boat shoes). I really want to buy them a few more pairs (like the fantastic gold glittery high tops!). You can see those and some of my other back to school picks on my Pinterest board below and use the coupon below when you do some shopping with OshKosh B’gosh. Do you have a favorite fall trend this year?

Our Very First Square Foot Garden

August 1, 2014 by Jessica 2 Comments

Our First Square Foot Garden | by happy together This past spring I decided to try and do a legit little garden for my family to enjoy. I have so many fond memories of helping my grandfather and father in their gardens, that I wanted to give that opportunity to my girls. We rent and can’t exactly go tearing up our yard to make a huge garden, so I was very happy when I discovered square foot gardening while browsing on pinterest one day. We actually had a little raised bed that we fixed up last year, but we only grew flowers then. This year I planted carrots, beets, onions, peas, a tomato plant, and spinach in our little garden bed. Then I planted a cucumber plant in a planter and a pepper plant in another planter.

I should have let things stay in the ground a little longer, but we were getting ready to leave for a long trip and I knew it would be too late by the time we got back. My girls had so much fun pulling out their veggies! And let me tell you, they were so much more excited and open to eat vegetables that they picked themselves.

Our First Square Foot Garden | by happy together   I liked square foot gardening because it was more technical for a smaller garden space. Meaning, the sites I found told you how big to make your “boxes” with string (if you like) and how much of each thing to plant in each “box”. That way everything is spaced out correctly and has enough room to grow. I did know that our space wasn’t very deep and it was rocky once you dug down far enough, so I wasn’t sure how the root vegetables would do. Fortunately, they did pretty good! Our carrots are a little funky looking, but that’s okay. It was still fun to give them a try and they tasted fine.

I figured it would happen since it gets so hot here in Louisiana it makes plants dry up real quick. Aphids and stink bugs also attacked our tomato plant and it was too late to try and save it. I planted some zinnia seeds for the time being and am having pretty flowers consistently. I’m hoping to get some things planted this month for a fall harvest though. Did you grow a garden this year? What did you plant?
