Homespun Magazine and New Free Pattern Preview

January 12, 2016 by Jessica 2 Comments

Feature in Homespun Magazine | happy together
I received a copy of Homespun Magazine the other day and flipped it open to find one of my projects featured in it. It still makes my heart flutter when I see one of my projects in print, whether a feature or a whole tutorial. The magazine is quite lovely overall and full of all kinds of craft and diy goodness.

Feature in Homespun Magazine | happy together
They showcased the Fabric Tape Award Ribbons that I created a diy for last year. And speaking of diy, I am working on finishing up a new free pattern that will be on my site by Monday! I have my goal set for Friday, but I like to give myself some wiggle room for things that might come up. It will be for girls sizes 2-8 and is an easy sew! I can’t wait to share the pattern with you 🙂

My Projects in “Sew Sweet Creatures”

November 17, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

New Book Release: Sew Sweet Creatures | happy together
I had the privilege to work with Lark Crafts again and have three of my projects that you can now make published in one of their newest books Sew Sweet Creatures. To my surprise, one of my projects (the party fox) even made the front cover!!! That made my day 🙂 I had a lot of fun creating these creatures, what theme they would have, and the props that go with them.

I based this little gal on the ever so popular photo booths that we see at parties. There are instructions to make the props that go with her too along with an idea to create her very own photo booth (see pic further below for that).

The Farmer Hare was inspired by my farm loving daughters. The accessories that are shared with this guy are a simple basket to hold his yummy food he grows and clay carrots to go in it.

And the Adventure Bear was inspired by our love to explore. His accessories are a map, book bag, and camera.

Little Hearts Crochet Pattern

February 15, 2015 by Jessica 4 Comments

Little Hearts Crochet Pattern | happy together Any one else have yarn scraps galore? I do and I am trying to use them up, so I decided to create a little hearts crochet pattern to help in that process. I used all types of yarn and ,as you can see, that effects the size of the heart.

Scrap Busting Heart Crochet Pattern | happy together These are really easy to crank out and can be used to make garlands, use as present toppers, make hair accessories with, and the list goes on. So why not just sit down one day and make a bunch to have on hand for when needed? I do that with various projects and it always comes in handy when I need a quick little gift for something.

Supplies for Heart Crochet Pattern | happy together To make your own little hearts you will need:

  • Yarn (the thinner the yarn the smaller the heart)
  • Crochet Hook (the smaller the hook the smaller the heart; I used a size F)
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors
  • Printable Pattern here if needed

Terms: ch= chain; sl st = slip stitch; sc= single crochet; dc= double crochet; hdc= half double crochet

Here are the main pattern instructions all together and then below I match them up with the pictures for anyone who would like to see it step by step.

    1. Ch. 4, sl st in 1st ch. to form ring
    2. 7 sc’s in ring, sl st in 1st sc
    3. ch. 3, 2 dc’s in same stitch as sl st from step 2
    4. hdc in next sc.
    5. sc in next sc
    6. sc, ch 3, and sc in next sc
    7. sc in next sc
    8. hdc in next sc
    9. 2 dc in next sc., ch. 3, sl st in same sc as the dc’s
    10. Fasten off and weave loose ends

Tip: You can tighten the center of the heart by pulling on the beginning yarn strand if desired. I recommend doing any time after you have done the 7 sc’s in the ring. That way you have enough room to make those stitches first.

Steps 1 thru 9 Heart Crochet Pattern | happy together 1. Ch 4

2. Sl st in 1st ch to form ring

3. 7 sc’s in ring, sl st in 1st sc

4. Ch 3

5. 2 dc’s in same stitch as sl st from step 3

6. hdc in next sc

7. 1 sc in next 2 sc’s

8. ch 3

9. sc in same sc as in last sc from step 7

Steps 10 thru 15 Heart Crochet Pattern | happy together 10. sc in next sc

11. hdc in next sc

12. 2 dc’s in next sc and ch 3

13. sl st into same sc as in step 12. Fasten off.

14. Use needle to weave in ends.

15. Trim excess yarn.

Fox Fabric Nightgowns

September 19, 2014 by Jessica Leave a Comment

Fox Fabric Nightgowns | happy together
Last week I received this soft and cozy flannel fox fabric c/o Organic Cotton Plus. When I saw it I knew it had to be some sort of pajamas for the girls. I originally thought of doing just pants, then tried to do some sort of night gown version of Simplicity 1574, which turned into this. I still used that pattern for the basic pieces, but I heavily altered it as can tell.

Miss J wanted the gold foxes, which fortunately Miss E was okay with. (ps they have it in blue too!)

I created a one piece front from the pattern and enlarged the neck line so their heads would be able to fit through. I used bias tape on the necklines and on the bottom of miss E’s night gown. I just serged miss J’s hemline to try a different way to finish it. Then for the sleeves I just rolled them up instead of under for a cuffed look.

When miss J first saw hers it didn’t have a bow and she said it just looked like a dress not a night gown. Little did she know I was going to add a dainty little bow that is characteristic of many nightgowns. It takes it to that level you know? The bottom hem also scoops up on the sides like some gowns do.

The fit was spot on and these girls have a new nightgown which was much needed. Thank you Organic Cotton Plus for the fabric! You can find them on facebook, twitter, and google + as well. Are any of you working on winter wardrobes for your little ones right now?

Violette Field Threads Piper Misses Review & Giveaway

June 9, 2014 by Jessica 25 Comments

Violette Field Threads Piper Misses Pattern Review and Giveaway After making some things for my girls, I was very excited to make something for myself! I received the Piper Misses pattern from Violette Field Threads and was immediately smitten with the design. How seriously adorable is this back bow? Swoon. This pattern is available for sizes xxs-xxl and can be made into a dress or a top. Check out some more pics here for how it looks like as a dress. I decided on a top for this first go round to see how it went.

Violette Field Threads Piper Misses Pattern Review and Giveaway The pattern is made with sleeves as well (short and 3/4 long sleeves are included in the pattern), but I made mine sleeveless since our Louisiana weather is super hot. I chose some fabric I found at JoAnn’s. It’s a cotton fabric and while I love the the print, it’s not my favorite type of material for clothing for myself. I tried to find some apparel fabric I liked, but I couldn’t so I made this work. The collar was really easy to add and so was the bow! It looks like a lot more work goes into it than really does (which is a super plus!). I was able to make this in about an hour and half. And that is with two little girls constantly needing something 😉

Violette Field Threads Piper Misses Pattern Review and Giveaway

Violette Field Threads Piper Misses Pattern Review and Giveaway I would say this is a great pattern for even a beginner sewer to take on as it isn’t super complicated. And that back is surely a wow factor! If you even have a hard time with fit, make sure to make the basic pattern real quick from a muslin fabric and see if you need to make any changes. If you were to make this with a knit fabric though, you wouldn’t need to worry about that as much. They provide lots of tips to help you create the Piper Miss as fabulous as possible.

Violette Field Threads Piper Misses Pattern Review and Giveaway Violette Field Threads is offering a chance for three people to win this pattern. It would be a great way to create some additions to your summer wardrobe. Simply enter with rafflecopter below. There are a few ways to enter, so multiple chances to win! Winners will be chosen June 17,2014. Be sure to check out their other patterns for women and children and see what new things they are doing and creating on their blog.

Easter and Spring Break are now behind us, but it Easter and Spring Break are now behind us, but it was such a good time! For this past Easter I really wanted to make egg aprons for miss E and my other young nieces and nephew that are here. I looked at a bunch of pictures and just kind of figured it out myself, but I made four aprons that can hold up to 10 eggs. Thankfully I had enough fabric already to make them 🙌 It won’t be too long until my youngest will be too old for some of this, so I am trying to squeeze it all in before that happens 💛
